I… (Thoughts At Easter Time On A Park Bench)

I… (Thoughts At Easter Time On A Park Bench)

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

I sit and watch

    Some of God’s miracles

As they run around searching

    For colored eggs;

Enjoying their innocents,

The first gift they ever received

Thanks to the almighty one’s generosity.

I wonder with a melancholy smile

    How long before life breaks

        Their precious gift.

Have some of them

Already had it stolen?

Keeping their disappointment

    Hidden beneath the beautiful wrapping

        It came in.

I begin to ponder why we eventually lose

The one thing that makes us

        Feel the freest,

Before we are robbed and chained to

    Disappointment…

    Heartache…

        And lies.

I shed a tear of joy

For how life begins

    For all of us,

Then weep like

    A rainstorm

        For what we lose

On the journey to the afterlife.

I then go about

    My business of enjoying

    What I still have,

Cherishing all that I love;

Cause I know wholeheartedly

That I am here today

But could be gone tomorrow.

There’s a quiet grace in how you hold both the innocence and the sorrow. The ending feels like a soft turning toward gratitude, even with the weight still in the air.

thank you so much for your kind insight
A bitter-sweet poem here....:)

You take the reader on a reminiscence of childhood and the innocence of youth.

It gets kinda cycnical in places, but then i like the way it turns around in the final lines....bringing in the gratitude for the moment...

Cherishing all that I love;
Cause I know wholeheartedly
That I am here today
But could be gone tomorrow.

A lovely read Dale, and so true what you say. We should treasure what we have because all too soon it can turn to dust. Happy Easter to you.

Thank you so much
So true, Cowboy. I've often wondered along the same lines. You see them and you know somewhere down the line is a disappointment or worse. But that's life. We must be thankful for what we have while we have it.

Well said sir.
A very moving write on the dichotomy of losing precious childhood. If we’er lucky, we only lose our childhood to the slogging practicality of living life. Your also poem mourns for us all the horrors and tragedy that may grind childhood away for far too many in our world. Yet, you remind us that there is hope… hope in us and hope in the promises of the Almighty.

NOTE:
Enjoying their [innocence]

RECOMMENDATION:
Thanks to the almighty one’s (maybe capitalize “Almighty One’s” and/or maybe drop “one’s” for just “Almighty’s) generosity.

You’re welcome.
'I shed a tear of joy- For how life begins - For all of us - Then weep like A rainstorm- For what we losell'

There's such a bittersweet feel to your words, in places so beautiful, colourful.. then moving along, there's the grey comparisons which, sadly, are ever present in Life.. Youth and liberty crowns what should be peace and fun, smiles and love.. but thigns happen, turn days and mights into that disappointment beneath the wrapping. Guess we have to clear the ripped covering and find a way of moving forward, enjoying wharever we can, when we can. Never look for tomorrow because if you do it stares right back at you.. whereas living for the day, the day's so busy keeping you busy. - you can kick your heels and smile now and again. Perhaps! This is a poem meant to be read, thought about, and remembered.. fine writing, Knight, emotional content but fnely controlled language. (unlike my typos which i've now corrected!)

What thank you my classy lady for your deep insightful thoughts of and from my poem.
I was captured by the music in church; you focused on the children. Our perspectives are different but I think we're trying to get at the same point.
