United In The Onion Or Choke On The Bitter Taste

 

Anyway you slice it

Every layer you embody

Brings tears to my eyes.

 

I cry woefully

When I peel back

The layers of neglect

That once was obscure

But has sprouted

Like a vegetable in season.

 

My eyes get misty

When I smile

At those moments

Of generosity you show

To those you don’t know.

 

I can’t stop the stream

From rolling down my face

When I realize

You are no better than an animal

Sometimes in showing compassion

To your fellow flesh and blood.

 

My face glistens

From the happy crystals

That develop on my skin

When I see

The kindness shown

To those down and out.

 

Your complexity

Is a mysterious mix

Of good and evil.

I just hope that

The heavenly attitude

Trumps the devil inside.

This is lovely... I adore the onion ... although I keep seeing Shrek..hahaha. But I digress.... the diffent layers in everyones personlaity is complex and very deep rooted... to peel past the surface and get to the good stuff is the fun part in getting to know anyone. The way you have described this onion is really cool, you can see all the good, the kindness, the light.... but know the darkness hovers just beyond perception, perhaps linguring in the layers... hmmm thought provoking and truly enjoyed piece, Cowboy.

What a fantastic poem, and it is too often true that certain outward actions of individuals do not match their inner lives. Two things, I think you might have meant woefully, and vegetable is in need of the e.
I watched the video, and am dumbstruck. And the ridiculous notion of fearing lawsuit if you help. No lawsuit in the world would make me stand back and do nothing.
