Doesn’t mean

You are pure of heart.

 

Golden tan flesh

Doesn’t mean

Your soul isn’t genuine.

 

Naturally dark skin

Doesn’t reflect

The light in your soul.

 

Scars on flesh

Is just proof

You are only human.

 

There is no shame

In showing off

Your outer beauty

Or admire another for theirs,

Just as long

As you realize

We are all unique

In our own way and respect

The heart and mind.

 

For we all have different emotions

Based on our past,

And our own brand

Of intellectual gifts.

 

The outer cover

Is just the beginning,

Everyone has a story,

Some we admire,

Some are inspiring,

And some are not

Our cup of tea;

But that don’t mean

They should be put in the bargain bin.

 

Make yours a story

You are proud to read outloud

And those who truly care about you

Will respect your copy write.

This is all true, but a prejudicial status quo is not without its collateral damage. When people get burnt often enough, they tend to wear masks in public to cover the fact that they are different. Prejudice against skin color is only the tip of the iceberg. There are thousands of reasons in our society why people are biased towards each other. We’re a contentious mix within this pandemonium called America. Some people are hated because they’re white, healthy, wealthy, and intelligent. We must understand where the quicksand is in each of our minds.

A powerful persuasive analogy, Dale. I can't tell you how many times I've been wrong about someone because of a preconceived bias. Seems we're wired to take a past experience, or rumor or whatever in order to help influence our choices. But most of the time we should listen to our hearts, our intuition. Or otherwise might miss an opportunity for a good friend, a learning lesson ... or maybe, something bigger.

Very relevant. We are all part of the world library. We have our own stories. We are books of different kinds...regardless of color. Because the cover wouldn't determine what's inside of us.

Interesting idea Cowboy ! The world could take a few pointers from a good library on behavior.. you have my mind wandering, all the covers, stories..some opened, some shelved..perhaps a shy one behind a row…I shall now refer to my scars as editing ... lol
