A timely poem with a sad truth. I like the image of lighting up the night sky with fireworks as the rights of the people fizzle like a wet fuse. Powerful words, cheers jude

Yes, it is the same issue I hear in any part of the world. "Is there really independence?" "Are we really free?" "Why are we still like this and that?"
Yes, a country celebrates freedom from being a captive of a colonizer or a ruler...and yet still not free of the deadly troubles and issues of injustice, hunger, war, etc.

I was always brought up to be proud and patriotic, but now I see a lot to question in the way this country is run. At least I can still question, and do whatever I can in whatever small way I can to try to make it better.

all this is so true...i would like to see the whole process blown sky high...and we could all be sitting on the side of Capitol Hill with our picnic baskets, watching and cheering how beautiful the fireworks are....
