The American Flag(Coming Apart At The Seems)

As Independence Day approaches I wonder if we still have anything to celebrate.

 

The flag flies high

Whichever way

the wind blows

Showing it’s pride

On both sides,

 

Too bad all

The two faced

Politicians don’t have

A good side.

 

We can light up

The night sky

To celebrate

our freedoms,

 

yet our rights

are fizzling out

like a firework

with a wet fuse.

 

We are a nation

That was built on

being free to express

Without persecution,

 

Now united we crumble

Under the weight

Of political correctness

And sinking deep

In the political party’s…

Egos.

Yes, it is the same issue I hear in any part of the world. "Is there really independence?" "Are we really free?" "Why are we still like this and that?"
Yes, a country celebrates freedom from being a captive of a colonizer or a ruler...and yet still not free of the deadly troubles and issues of injustice, hunger, war, etc.

I was always brought up to be proud and patriotic, but now I see a lot to question in the way this country is run. At least I can still question, and do whatever I can in whatever small way I can to try to make it better.

all this is so true...i would like to see the whole process blown sky high...and we could all be sitting on the side of Capitol Hill with our picnic baskets, watching and cheering how beautiful the fireworks are....
