My Halo

My halo has been rusted

From all the tears

I have caused through the years,

Flooding me with regrets

Till my bridge of redemption

Got washed away.

 

My halo is bent

Out of shape

From all the wreckage

I have caused

Due to my reckless disregard

For all the innocent bystandards.

 

My halo has turned

Black and blue

From all the pain

I have inflicted

On unwilling opponents

While I was fighting my fears.

 

My halo is shiny,

Smooth and unbruised

Because the Lord

Has forgiven me

For being human.

Cowboy! I love this one. You don't write about your faith very often, but this one is stunning! We are all a mess of failing humans with human frailties and weaknesses given to pride, greed, lust, and selfishness. Isn't it nice that God loves us despite all that? It gives me shivers, just thinking about the immensity of his ability to forgive. I can't forgive myself for half of what I've done, yet He doesn't have a problem with it at all. Beautiful writing, my friend.
