A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

It is ten years to the day

That you passed away,

And since that day

Things have continually changed.

The only thing that will always remain the same

Is the pain of not seeing you one last time,

Or remembering the last thing I said to you

The day before my world turned blue.

So much I can say

About how I was raised

Into the man that stands here today.

You taught me the meaning of respect,

You showed me how to

To love unconditionally,

And most of all you let me be me, no ifs ands or buts.

You always had faith in others

And hope for humanity…

Now I try to live my life in the same way,

That is how I keep you alive inside.

Maybe there were no words I could have said

That night,

If I had know what awaited the next day,

That could have expressed how blessed I was

That you gave me life and taught me how to live.

Still there is an ache inside

Of not knowing if I said the words

That let you know what you meant to me,

So I will say it now in this verse

I love you mom, even before birth…

And even more since you were called to heaven.

Gee
Beautiful, like night, day, the moon, the sun, constant, always there and then one day, gone. I'm sure that she knew how much you loved her.

Bless you too Dale!!
What a moving write. It is hard to lose someone who meant so much to us, but at least you have all your good memories. A lovely poem.

You are very welcome. The emotion in it is very vivid.
Beautiful tribute to your mom! I felt every word, true & burnished with your grief which changes over time but never goes away. Most of all, I love the detailed way you explain those last moments & the wondering that comes later: Did you let her know . . . sufficiently? This is so true-to-life as I would imagine it could feel for some people.
