The next event I fully remember is the ambulance taking me from the hospital to the rehab center. My girlfriend rode with us. She use t work at the rehab center and knew the director there. She got me signer in and helped the nurses get me settled in my my temporary room.

The first person I shared the room with was really nice and welcoming. I spent the next week getting my strength up before rehab could start. One thing I need to mention was that they lost my glasses. I didn’t have great eye sight to begin with. But know I was like Mr. Magoo. Another joke.

Another thing was about that time the Covid outbreak had just begun, So I wasn’t allowed any visitors. Just phone calls. And since it was hard for me to swallow I was only on soft foods which meant anything solid had to bet in a mixer.

Noe therapy was more than just learning to walk again. There was how to dress and undress. get in the habit to look to my left because I couldn’t see out of the corner. They were also constantly asking me what day it was and if I knew where I was at. I also had to read short stories and asked questions about them. or give me three words and asked which doesn’t belong. I know that it was to stimulate my brain, but still got frustrating.

Back to learning to walk. They had a nurse walk me around the room slowly. more and more they had me walk further. first it was one time around the room, eventually working my way to twice around the room and eventually three times. eventually, they let me use a walker to go around the room by myself.

Then finally one day they let me walk myself without a walker. I placed my hands on a bar, A nurse walked behind me with a wheel chair in case I fell backwards. My first time I took very

small steps, When I heard the therapist behind me clapping and cheering for me I dried. that was when I realized I would be okay. And to this day I considered it my biggest accomplishment. Because the doctors told my family there was a fifty/fifty chance I would walk again.
