Where The Past And Future Collide

The Past is like

A rear view mirror.

Except moments that just happen 

Are as close as they appear. 

And the rest disappear

into the miles of your memories.

So many are good enough

to keep you warm

when the hear and now

feels like a snowstorm

without shelter.

But many others

can be so filled with regret

that it puts you in unshackles

that restricts your freewill.

The future can’t be seen

even if you have twenty- twenty vision

So many doubts and fears

Put all the exciting possibilities

between a rock and a hard place.

Sometimes paralyzing your hope

and promoting your uncertainty.

And where the past and future collide

is where you stand and breath.

and to spend too much time

worrying about one,

or questioning the other

is how you forget

the joys of the present.

And that is a true waste of a gift

We are always too busy looking in the rear-view...what's done is done, but what is to be is full of possibilities...

"Where the past and future collide", now that's a place where possibilities reside, though admittedly, you do lose the present as you say. But sometimes, too, by visiting the past, while being in the present, allows you to see a brighter future. The way I am reading your poem Dale, is to see the past as unchangeable, but the future can be written in many different ways, and that future is up to you write. Very imaginative and nicely written.
