Jake got home just in time to tuck in his son. He also had to deal with more grief from his ex-wife, Maggie. After all the moments of bitterness had toned down, she agreed to let him stay the night so he could sleep over with his son. He took the sleeping bags and pillows out of her closet and placed them on the floor. He read him the classic “The Jungle Book” until he fell asleep.

Now he woke up to sunlight in his eyes and his head throbbing. As he stood up, he had to twist his neck to get the kinks out.

He didn’t want to leave just yet, but knew him and his partner had a long day ahead. He took a quick shower, and shaved. Before he left, he peeked in on his son sleeping.

On the way to the station, he reflected on the talk he had with his son, who tried to act cool and understanding, but his facial features gave him away.

He stopped by the Arco station on the way home to get gas and six doughnuts to share with Sally snd headed to the place he didn’t want to be, but duty calls.
