Detective Sally Beaumont

Sally stopped by Walmart on her way home to get a six-pack of beer. She wasn’t much of a drinker but had a rare craving for it. Maybe it was the sight of the bleeding corpse. Or maybe it was the thought of what Mike’s wife and kid were about to go through. Especially after seeing hersobbing right before they left.

She lived alone has been single for going on twelve years now. Ever since her divorce. The marriage ended ugly. But that was a side effect for a homicide detective. All of the gruesome and gory things she saw, like last night, caused her to unconsciously drive a wedge between her and her ex. And she didn’t want to make that same mistake again, because their divorce led her husband to become an alcoholic. He died two years later in a drunk driving accident.

Since then, she fills the holes of loneliness with a string of harmless flings. She had to break one man’s heart who popped the question out of nowhere after dating for only six months.

She ended up drinking only five. But being a light drinker, it was enough to cause her to wake up with a hangover.

She had to force herself out of bed, and get in the shower. As she stood there letting the hot water cascade over her body, she started thinking that maybe it was time for a change, starting with retiring after this case is wrapped up.
