preparing for Camille

When Sally walked up to the station, carrying a pizza box, she made her way towards her and Jake’s desk. He was already sitting there, staring at the computer screen. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see fellow officers staring at her.

Once she was about a foot from the desk, she said. “Morning.”

Jake looked up and nodded, then focused on the computer.

Sally set the box on the desk and sat down. “What are you doing?”

Jake looked at her. “ I decided to go over Camille and Mike’s finances and check to see if they have a life insurance pol_” He paused and looked at the box. “What is that?”

“It’s pizza.” Sally retorted condescendingly.” You’ve heard of pizza?”

“Jake shook his head and twisted his lip. “Smart a*s. But I’m not hungry.”

“I figured that,” Sally opened the box and took a slice of pizza out. “But we’ve got work to do. And we can’t do it effectively if we’re starving.” She took a bite and chewed.

Jake stared for a moment, then sighed and grabbed a slice.” You may be a smart a*s. But you’re correct.” He took a bite.

“Sally swallowed her bite. “ So you’re looking into their finances. Does that mean you think she’s a suspect?”

Jake shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t know.” He put the pizza back in the box. “I’ll eat when I’m done looking. And right now, anything is possible. I just wanted to get a look at her background if I’m gonna interview her effectively.”

Sally nodded. “True.” She took a bite, quickly chewed, and swallowed. “So, did you find anything useful or interesting?”

“Not really, Well in terms of their finances. “ He paused a moment. “They have the usual life insurance policy. Both for 200,00. But, they don’t have their kids covered.”

Sally shrugged her shoulders. “Make sense.”

Jake shot her a confused look.

Sally continued. “I Mean, because no parents want to think of their kids dying. But in regards to insurance policy on Mike. That could be a motive.”

“You would think. But looking into their finances, they are pretty well off. That gym that Camille owns costs a thousand dollars in rent, and the gym brings in over ten thousand a month.”

“Wow,” Sally stated in a surprising manner. “Sounds like she an intelligent business owner.”

“Yep. Now, if she had been killed, Mike would be a suspect.”

Sally pursed her lips and lightly nodded. “I agree.”

Jake stood up. “Well, she should be here soon.” He picked up a slice of pizza and devoured it. “Let’s get ready.” He walked away.

Saally followed him. “Have you ever heard of chewing your food?”
