insistent that he was okay. And even though he was just eight, Camille wanted to honor her boy's decision.

She pulled into the parking lot. “Alright.” Camille reached over and stroked her son’s cheek. “Now you have a good day” She paused a moment and sighed. “And don’t hesitate to have the school call me if you need to go home early. “I’ll un_”

“Mom,” Her son looked at her with a sweet smile on his face. “I’ll be fine. Daddy will be watching over me.”

Camille felt like she got the wind knocked out of her. But she quickly recovered. “You’re my big boy.” She forced a smile. “I love you.”

“Love you too,” Junior said as he jumped out of the car and began sprinting towards the school.

Camille gulped as she watched her son walk into the building. She took a moment to collect herself, then shut the door.

As she drove to the station, a mix of emotions swirled in her head. The main one was anxiousness. Even though she was innocent, The thought that the detectives wanted to talk to her again was frightening. What was the latest development? And will it lead to finding her husband’s killer?

She pulled into the station and found an empty space to park. She kept the engine running a minute before finally turning off the car and getting out.

Her mouth was beginning to feel dry, and her stomach felt like it was full of rocks as she stepped into the station.

“Mrs. Whitmoore.” A man’s voice yelled.

She turned and spotted Detective Stone and Beaumont sitting at the desk. She walked towards them on shaky legs. Once at the desk, she put her hand on it to brace herself as she sat down.

“Thank you for coming in,”Jake said.

Camille looked at them and cleared her throat. “No problem. “ She shifted in her seat.

“Would you like something to drink?” Sally said.

Camille cleared her throat again. “Actually, water would be great.” She meekly said.

Sally walked away.

“Alright. “Jake said. “There’s no point in beating around the bush here. As I told you yesterday, we have a new angle on the case.”

Sally returned and sat a glass of water in front of Camille. “There you go.”

“Thank you. “Camille grabbed the glass.

Jake continued. “We talked it over and we believe your husband may not have been the target.”

Camille shifted in her seat. “What do you mean?”

“Well,” Jake got out of the chair and sat on the edge of the desk. “He was wearing that costume. And we believe that possibly the suspect might have mistook took him for you or your daughter.”

Camille looked at him blankly. Finally, she said. “That’s crazy.”

“Is it?” Jake replied quickly.

Camille took a sip of water, then cleared her throat. “So you’re saying someone had intended to kill me, or Cassandra?”

Jake nodded. “It’s possible.”

But who?” Camille replied sharply.

“That’s what we’re trying to find out.” Jake stood up. “We’ve already talked to most of Cassandra’s classmates.” He looked at Sally, who nodded her approval, then focused on Camille. “We don’t believe she was the target.”

Camille stared at him a moment, then put her hand on her chest as she frantically looked around the room, Finally she looked at Jake and dropped her hand. “Are you saying you think I was the target?”

Jake nodded but didn’t reply

Sally interrupted.”We can’t be a hundred percent certain, but that’s where we’re heading.”

“Why would anyone want to kill me?” Camille stated in a high- pitched tone.

“That’s why we wanted to talk to you,” Jake said. “Have you had any recent altercations with anyone?”

“No.” Camille quickly responded.

“Do you owe anyone any money?”

“Like who?” Camille’s tone sounded defensive.

“Bookies. Drug dealers.” Jake Boldly replied.

“Are you kidding me?” Camille replied loudly. Her face turned red . She looked around the room and continued in a lower but harsh voice. “I don’t gamble. And I certainly do not take drugs.”

“You need to calm down,” Jake said in a commanding voice. He knew there was something going on. That Camille was hiding something.

He sat down and gave Camille a hard stare. “We can’t do our job unless you are straight with us. Now someone wanted you dead. And your husband became an innocent victim.”

He paused a moment but kept his eyes trained on Camille. Finally, he continued. “ So you are saying there isn’t anyone you know of that had it out for you?”

Camiille put her hands over her face. They could tell that she was weeping. They waited a moment to let Camille collect herself. Finally, she took her hands away. “Dear God.”

She wiped the tear off her cheek and sniffled. She grabbed the glass and took a gulp of water. “There might be someone.” She sat the glass down but didn’t continue.

Jake sat on the edge of the desk and leaned forward. “We’re listening.”

“I feel so ashamed.” Camille’s voice was gravelly. She took another sip of water and continued as she looked at the detectives with shame in her eyes. “I almost had an affair last month.” She shifted in her seat.

When she didn’t continued Sally said. “Almost.”

Camille raised her left hand and began to rub her temple. “ Yeah.” She gulped. “There was a customer that frequented our gym. He had been going there for about four months. I was going through a real rough patch with Mike. And he was just so handsome, and charming.”

She began to rock in the chair. “ Anyways, we started talking. Then one thing led to another, and” She used a moment. “He started coming to my gym after hours. We just talked. Then I started flirting with him. I even told him how I’d like to f**k him right there in the office until were dripping with sweat.”

She covered her face.

“Then what happened?” Jake said.

Camille dropped her hands.“One day, we were sitting in the office. He started to kiss me. I pulled away and told him I couldn’t go through with it.” She deeply sighed. “ Needless to say, he wasn’t very happy. He grabbed me by my arms and called me a f*****g tease. Then he slammed me against the wall and stormed out. But before he left, he looked at me and said Karma’s a b***h. Then left.”

And you didn’t think that might be relevant?” Jake sternly stated.

“I know.” Camille looked away, then looked at the detectives shamefully. “ I just don’t want my kids to find out. They’ve been through enough.”

Jake shook his head. “Does this person have a name?”

Camille looked down and meekly said. “Joshua Milner.”

“Do you know where this Joshua lives, or works?”

Camille nodded but kept looking down. “He’s a manager at Costco. I don’t know where he lives, but I have his information at work. I can go over and get it for you.”

“Alright,” Jake said. “Call my number the moment you get it.” “Right. “Camille stood up and brushed herself off.

The detectives watched her briskly head towards the door and exit.

“You know,” Jake said. “I knew she was hiding something. But I never guessed that.”

“Surprised me too.” Sally shook her head. “And I don’t get surprised easily.”
