picking up juniorA Chapter by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)Camille waited in her car as the bell rang. She looked around for her son. When she spotted him he was walking towards the car, his head hung low. When he reached the car he threw his back pack in, jumped into the back seat, He looked a her with saddest face. “What’s wrong sweetie?” She reached over the back seat and tried to gently touch his nose. He jerked away when he saw it coming. “You lied to me.” He said in a defiant tone. “What?” Camille replied calmly. “I’ve never lied to you.” Junior grunted and looked at her with his lips twisted and his cheeks puffed out. “You said Dad was in heaven and watching out for me.” “He is dear.” Camille tried to keep her voice even, even though she was confused by her son’s anger. “A guy at school told me there was no such thing as heaven, and that dad was just worm food now.” Camille could feel her face burning up. She tried to remain as calm as possible. “Who? What’s his name?” “It doesn’t matter.” Junior looked out the window with his arms wrapped around his chest. Camille slowly took two deep breaths, then finally said. “Look, I don’t know who this kid is. But he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.” Junior didn’t reply. Camille turned around, started the car, and made her way out of the parking lot. Once she was driving on the street, she said. “Hon.” She glanced back to see that her son was looking down. “Don’t listen to what that boy told you. I swear on my life that your dad is in heaven. And he is looking out for you, well, all of us.” Junior didn’t reply. They drove the rest of the way in silence. Camille pulled into Emily’s driveway and shut the car off. She opened the door and got out. She looked in the back and saw her son was slowly getting out. That’s when she heard shouting coming from Emily’s house © 2026 The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE) |
