For those of you that know me you know am very liberal and easygoing.I don’t get offended easily and have a sense of humor bout things.Last night though I saw a commercial that really got under my skin.I just found it highly inappropriate for the situation.Let me explain.
Back in the eighties there was a rap called “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix A Lot.It starts off “I like big butts and I can not lie…” I always loved it, thought it was fun plus I love the butt.
So this commercial comes on with that song as the jingle with the words changed but you could tell it was Sir Mix A Lot… this time it started off, I Like square butts and I can not lie…”, can’t tell you much bout the words after that but it referred to Spongebob and Patrick… then they had those two dancing on screen with the Burger King mascot. They also flashed to woman dancing made up to look like they had square butts.
Eventually they flash to Sir Mix A Lot sitting on a couch watching television with two ladies and he says, “Booty is booty.”
Then they let you know Burger King now has Sponge Bob toys in their Kid’s meals.
Now I know they changed the song up a bit but the fact they referred to butts and saying,“booty is booty” all to advertise kids toys.
I am not offended by much other then things like prejudice and racism, but I have to say I was quite applaud by that commercial.I just found it wasn’t appropriate for their objectives.

Burger King's Booty Call

Burger King is employing booty to sell burgers. The burger giant's new commercial, for a 99-cent kid's meal, aired during last night's lopsided national championship game between Michigan State and University of North Carolina.
"I like square butts and I cannot lie," the King character raps, in an old-school homage to Sir Mix-A-Lot, as four female dancers gyrate behind him.
Square butts? The young women all have phone books in their shorts. Then Sponge Bob Square Pants appears on a television. There's your theme and justification for the kid's meal. (Don't forget SBSQ lives in a place called Bikini Bottom.)
A lot happens before the commercial closes with a coda, of sorts: Grammy Award-winning Sir Mix-A-Lot, who wrote the song being parodied, announces "booty is booty."
What does one make of this production, oddly reminiscent of the Pee-wee Herman Show? For one thing, Burger King continues to maintain its distance from more family-oriented rival McDonald's. For another, it appears aimed at urban African-Americans. But let's not kid ourselves. The country is steeped in hip-hop culture, and many white suburbanites will appreciate BK's retro "hipness."
In any case, the spot strikes me as silly and funny and a reminder that sexism can play a role in peddling fast food. Even to our children.
I google search the above info Dale~ and they also show the commercial ~ I am with you
I think it's very inappropriate to use "Booty" (sexism) to peddle fast food to our children
IMO it sends a very "do whatever you want in life kids, no rules need apply kind of message"
I disagree with David Farkus~ I don't find it one bit funny!! I find it very distasteful~Fran
Well......I've been feeling for quite some time that TV is over the line and the advertising industry is right in there. Shocking and nasty - and embarrassing ads - the ones you wouldn't want to see in mixed company or with your kids, etc. I HATE the commercials for "feminine" products. Is nothing private anymore?? It's sick. This commercial is just one more reflection on how inappropriate everything has become. Yes, "booty" to sell stuff to kids.......what were they thinking?? The public needs to start complaining or it will just get worse! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.

I agree with you totally. It was very inappropriate for the purpose of advertising kids toys. It amazes me what people come up with these days in the name of advertising, especially regarding children. Good to see I'm not the only one who is bothered by this kind of thing. You "Rock" (LOL) pardon the pun. Hugs
i cannot say that i have seen the commercial you speak of, but i do find it a bit inappropriate...all this to sell an idea for children's toys, is not right. granted, i do not watch much regular tv, but i don't much appreciate what fast food chains are doing to make a buck nowadays. my children are grown, but i have grandchildren and i really wouldn't want for them to get a 'look' at something like that.
The marketing team is gonna get fired!! OR...............
it is a brilliant marketing team!!.....COZ....
by doing something like this they are gonna get the attention of ppl...and THAT is what they want...especially in times like these!!!.......so.....its their strategy!!.......BUT...
I think its terrible!!......THis isnt what we want to teach our kids!!......ANYWAYS...
sueing in America is a common thing...and ppl could get creative when them come to this advert...
anyways...ty for sharing.

I agree with you, 100 percent. It's definitely not setting a good example for kids these days.
I've heard seven year olds cuss their heads off and I even saw a little kid smoking a cigarette in public one day. You have to be 18 to buy cigarettes, but there's no law against smoking them.
And in the mall these days they have a store called "Libby Lu", where little girls five yeas old and younger get all dressed up and wear heels and makeup.
So I definitely understand why that commercial would offend you.
well first off I respect your feelings in this, I havent seen that commercial but I would think it's a bad Idea to promote square butts in a Fast Food chain, ummm (come on in ladies turn your round asses to big fat square ones) (here have a Whooper) lol,, sorry it's really bad advertising if you asked me,, second any time you use that song and affliate it with children it's just pretty sad and sick!! That song is a fun song but should be directed to someone of much more maturity,, so whats the age of appropriatcy? ummm I guess it would be when you stop buying "kid meals for your self"!!
It's better to be dead and cool than alive and uncool
