A Little Perspective

A Little Perspective

A Story by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

Let me start by saying I know I will get some flak for this but I don’t care, I think it needs to be said.

Yes we did lose one of the greatest pop icons in the entertainment industry yesterday but I don’t understand why it gets more coverage then any other death out there.  Other then being a celebrity what makes his passing more valuable then other human being?

We have soldiers dying everyday in foreign lands for our freedoms and all they get is the blink of an eye coverage.  There are cops dying in the streets trying to protect us and fireman dying in buildings to save us yet we hardly here much but a whisper bout them.  Innocent children die everyday from starvation due to greedy governments and it is sweep under the rug.

So again I ask is this man’s death high priority?  He was a big star in a land of pretend for most of us.  A man I might point out has a shady past himself.  I am not saying it is not sad because the passing of any life is.  In reality it should not be any bigger then that of anyone else who has died, except to his family and friends.

Yes he was a big pop star and entertainment icon but what about the heroes, the homeless and the innocent.  I ask it once again.  What makes his life more valuable then them?

I totally agree! I think the media is just making money off of him like they always have. When I heard all of the accolades being heaped onto him by the newscasters I thought weren't these the same people who were bashing him just a few, short years ago? No, he's not more important then anyone else and it just shows you how mixed up our society's priorities are! Shady past, you say? If it had been anyone else that person would have been in prison.

Thanks for saying it out loud!

umm Tony?? I disagree with you,, it came at the perfect time.. everyone has their right to what they feel
we all know that.. but the fact is that there was human error.. and we being humans? have to live up to that
if you really think about it., it is our system that makes money on the tribute.. do you think they care who or what he has done? nooo. its the spotlight that equals *ching ching* the others who deserve this has not a face, or name.. therefore,, no spotlight.. In all due respect.. for me,, love the music as a person not too much.. so it is for ME,,, great timing..

You are correct in saying that there are many sad circumstances in this world that deserve just as much media coverage, or more than Michael Jackson does. I agree with that, but you can't compare apples and oranges. He was an entertainer, who brought joy to our lives with his singing and dancing, he gave much of his money to the causes that you are speaking of, he put smiles and brought happiness to people and believe it or not, that is what people like to hear about, now on the other hand, we don't want to hear about all the bad news that goes on this world and we don't respond as well to it.
I know that what you are saying is true but there is nothing wrong in giving tribute to someone who has made life a little better for so many.
We in this country do pay tribute to those soldiers who have given their lives for our freedom...we have quite a few of those holidays every year.
This is good to bring attention to the atrocities that go on in this world and I commend you for that.
I just think you are being a little too strong in your comparisons and how people react.
Although this is a good piece, just at the wrong time.

You couldn't have said it better my friend!

Every human life has the same value in the eyes of our creator, and it is most unfortunate that man takes some and considers them a "God".

Yes, he had talent, and I enjoyed his music very much, but he is not any better in spirit than any other person...as, you so correctly say,....what about the soldiers who sacrifice every day for our freedom, the homeless, and then the drug addict, prostitute, as all are equal?

It is so sad that far too many have lost sight of this!
Bravoto you for posting this!

No flak here! You are entitled to your opinion and I strongly agree with it! All life is precious, not just the rich and famous. Unfortunatly the media will treat his death like a good song on the radio...they will play it to death!!! Im so glad someone finally had the marbles to say it! :)

Bravo Dale for saying what most of us are feeling. Death is never a joke or should ever be taken lightly, But the begger on the street is just as important when he dies as is a "pop Icon". How many homeless have died alone in there card board box today.... A sad truth no one really knows or cares....

Great point my friend...

I guess this mans death brings it home to us humble people that we are all on god's good behaviour where time on earth is concerned,we are mere tenants and the wages of sin are death, good point you make but i for one never wanted this war in IRAQ and AFGHANISTAN
