Unchained Me

Unchained Me

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)
"

For the Lymerexes contest

"

Once there was a me

Chained to a ball of misery

But by the brace of God

The hurting lock broke itself

Leaving me to be happy

And my true self.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the last two lines... "Leaving me to be happy/and my true self."
Kinda hard to figure out what it is exactly that's chaining us up and making us unhappy; likely not gonna do that ourselves. Gotta get a little Divine intervention to help. Nice job with this. Lot said with so few words.

It's good to know that we can be ourselves. When we find a partner that stifles us, we do feel as though we are bound to misery.

But enough about my ex-wife.

This was good, Cowboy!

Sometimes you don't even realize how bad things are until you move on. Great job on this. It seems like you're taking stock of your life's changes.

We should all learn to pay attention to the people, places, and situations that make us feel like we can simply be ourselves. And... break free from the ones that do not. Very well stated!

I exhaled! Wow! This could be about me, some painfully abusive years ago! This is a profound write that encapsulates many facets for many readers!

Good to hear you have found your true self!! All too often we find ourselves chained to those who drown us and smother us with their shrouds of what they want never thinking of what they are doing...good to hear you have broken free. :)

Well said, Dale. So much with few lines. Liberating, isn't it? Another Excellent write from a Master of the pen.
Misery is usually a self inflicted manifestation of the hurts we allow others to place upon us. It is only through the Grace of God that our sight is given, providing the key to free what is given unto us...ourselves.
