as the hands round our necks grow tighter

as the hands round our necks grow tighter

A Poem by delapruch

in “the land of the free”

the producers of ideas &

the creators of word, image & music

act as if the compensation which they gain

in such ventures

should be greater than that of those who

work on cures for diseases

or protect their children at night

from violence & destruction---

what exactly these “artists” make their art for

gets overshadowed by the fact that

they gain profit for doing so

within the walls of the empire &

now they whine again

through an attempt to get the state to work

at censoring the whole of the people

with SOPA & PIPA.

the hands of the state grip slowly round the necks of

every single person who uses the internet &

as it begins to strangle us

it will not protect anyone,

but instead it will actually inhibit

true art from being produced,

as the obvious ability to make money of what one creates

will be the primary reason to do it at all---

this has been exemplified by the outcry of those

who think that it should be.

the internet itself

so beautiful in its ability to not be tamed or

harnessed by any one entity

is spawned from that part within those of us

who wish not to be controlled &

who wish to share amongst each other

anything & everything that we see fit

as it gives us pleasure

in the doing---

in that, we are all creators

we are all artists

we are all cultural producers &

an attempt by anyone to stifle that ability

is one that must be taken seriously

as a threat against our own potential for growth.
