distance + time

distance + time

A Poem by delapruch
"

na.

"

the world came crashing in

(that much you remember) &

when it did, the quickest way out was to

run

run

run

as far away as possible from this source of

everlasting pain &

after getting far away enough

(on the other side of the world),

the belief was that with distance & time,

you would heal

(like in all the shite romantic comedy

movies & crappy love songs).

but as time went by, nothing changed---

yes, you followed all the advice of your friends,

burned all the pictures, erased anything & everything

that could possibly remind you of said individual &

even you began to believe that the cure was in range

when you could close your eyes & no longer make out

the face of the one who tried to destroy you.

but late at night when you had let your guard down,

in your mind, when you dreamed,

they returned with fierce murderous emotional memory,

making every attempt to tear you in half

whilst you slept.

so you ran out & found someone easy

someone lured in on the rebound & tried to

bang away the pain, but to no avail---

so you left the bed & went to the medicine cabinet

to put whatever you could find in your body that would

numb it senseless & kill the memory away,

but to no avail,

so you spent all your money on a ticket somewhere else

to try & get away to a new place

free of the last failed attempts to rid yourself of this

murderer dancing in your dreams,

but to no avail---

now you’ve reconsidered the words from all those friends &

now you’ve reconsidered all those movies & songs,

knowing full well that the idea that the horror will go away

with distance & time,

is a lie.
