a change in behavior

after the luster subsides

& the background music

leaves the scene,

the two who couldn’t keep

their hands off one another,

begin to start a campaign of

mutual surveillance,

secretly monitoring

(going through each other’s

things when they aren’t around,

scrutinizing every gesture &

looking for underlying meaning

in every comment, phrase or

sweet nothing that bubbles out of

them) &

insecure about everything

which they once walked round

with all nonchalant &

blissful, like the sun would always be

shining down upon them---

a change in the behavior of

one of them will send the other

reeling &

the confusion, the mistrust &

the endless want to ask questions

in order to confirm their suspicions,

morphs the dynamic of what once

might have been referred to as a

“healthy relationship,”

into something very much different.
