Simmering Heat & Calico Sheets

Simmering Heat & Calico Sheets

A Poem by demureminds

These calico sheets are warm

in the summer,

Fleeting heat arising from each

static fiber.

They have a ten thousand golden strokes,

ten for each poppy bud

simmering in the heat

beneath me.

They’re devouring me throughout the night,

treading legs,

fluttering arms

in angst.

They keep me me lying awake,

sleeping in between minutes

till dawn,

lucid dreaming of the tender rainforest,

unveiling innocence of a fawn.

And I began to feel the tepid chill of

lonely nights on these calico sheets,

inclined to drift off towards summer days

radically consumed in you and me.

In my opinion, you ended this quite well. Not too soon nor early. I enjoyed how you turned 'calico sheets' into a warm cage in which you could suffer every night. Or perhaps that is too much an overstatement. Well done.
