Words

Words

A Poem by Diana Owen Busy with Life BBS!

   Words that can cut deeply
Only one is needed to hurt
Ruining your own security
Destroying your self esteem
Slowly losing respect of yourself

Fat
Stupid
Ugly

Words will take away from what you love
Obscene phrases that bring you down
Releasing you from your own grip on reality
Despising who you are
So that you lose your own self.

It's generally the lack of intelligent words that find people using the hurtful ones instead.

A single word can heal or kill. Words have more power than anyone could imagine. We this all the time with people. To often there is this stupid idea that we must all fit into this mold of ideal perfection. Guess what we are all different and none of us are the same. We all have the ability to break free for this mentality. Just stand up for yourself and speak out against the media's idea of beauty. I personally hate those heroine chic looking girls. I just want to take them to Cici's for an all you can eat buffet. Put some weight on you could get blown away in a good wind storm. Eat more than a tic tac and think that is a meal. But once again that is just my opinion. I think there is a need for more piece of writing such as this.

Definately as a writer words have much more impact in how they hit home. I think because you listen and absorb and react to how they are put together analysing what they mean. Those that use them to harm maybe have no knowledge of the hurt of language - maybe I'm being too kind here, maybe they do know - maybe I believe in human kindness too much! Anyway, those that use the words are doing so looking for reaction because they are unable to create feeling in themselves - thats my view - if that makes sense.

I think this poem also stands as a warning to many not to take hurt aimed at them - maybe the picture in some way shows the harm/self harm that can happen if you let these words into your head.

Well crafted.

This is a sad write that I can completely relate to. Words hurt more than people realize sometimes. Your words are powerful.

This is such a sad, true write. People can be so cruel and it IS usually because they lack their own self-esteem...people kind of try to divert the attention from themselves. I liked this a lot :)

Words can also be used to heal and console. A poignant poem as well as the pic. Excellent.

This is a goodpiece and often I find it sad when people have to try and make someone else feel bad to make them feel better about themselves. This seems to be a well thought out piece with a good message
n the form of the Author's note. Great Job.

the need to attack another and bring them down is often the product of low self-esteem. They build themselves up by tearing others down. I'm glad that you've been able to rise above that and try to ignore the hurtful words others throw at you...still...no matter what we know...words still have some power to hurt us. a great write.

So, so true. When we go off on a tantrum we are in actuality bashing ourselves as we mindlessly go to verbal war - waging endless tirades that only serve to destroy both parties. There are no winners in war - only losers.
