I WATCHED ISTANBULA Poem by Dilara Pinar ARIÇIstanbul...Today I watched Istanbul differently It no longer has its old atmosphere Nowhere warms me Only cold walls smelling of history The bridge that cuts across the Golden Horn Today I watched Istanbul differently Why is it only the lights that illuminate this place? Why are these people sleeping? Why aren't they watching Istanbul To their heart's content? Today I watched Istanbul differently There's no trace, no sign of life left Why are people constantly rushing around? Where are they going? Beauty stands immortal all around them Don't they see? Today I watched Istanbul differently Tulips and hyacinths have bloomed Alone, unseen by anyone That's why they immediately withdraw into themselves Frightened by this great noise Today I watched Istanbul differently So that I may know what I missed before I leave
