SEAGULL SOUNDS AND ISTANBUL

SEAGULL SOUNDS AND ISTANBUL

A Poem by Dilara Pinar ARIÇ
"

Istanbul...

"
Seagull sounds are heard on the horizon
As if they are missing you
A man in the distance is throwing bread crumbs to them
The seagulls are excitedly gathering their food one by one
Meanwhile, I am sitting on a bench writing a poem
On the shore of the endless sea
Then a bagel seller comes with his stall
Struggling and shouting for his bread money
A moment of silence falls on the sky
The clouds are clearly sad
They begin to shed tears
I turn around
A lot of people
They are rushing about in a panic
Unaware of the beauty by the roadside
The sea is saddened by the invention of the clock
No one even notices it
The silence inside me grows like an avalanche
I can hear my own breath
And the sounds of cars passing behind me
I lie down on this bench where I am sitting alone
I look at the sky
It seems it was brighter before
The clouds, rather than the sun, illuminated Istanbul
And that too is human Tired of its chaos
Now it drenches this city with sadness
Sometimes I feel like walking
Sometimes
Far away… Very far away
Perhaps to a village, perhaps a town,
But to reunite with nature
To meet that radiance
