Pride in nothing

Pride in nothing

A Poem by Gerhardus Retief

I could mention any crusader though who reacts to armor in a rusty sound.
This is the way a soldier moves in a snowy reunion.
To meet his enemy on the battlefield is more than to what it is in the world's eyes.
Truth be told in the plan that stands to be unfolded.
Bishop tells the king to make the wrong decisions in the throne.
The story won't be remembered by any, no memory will recall such people and books wont write their deeds at all.
There was no peace in that lifetime only crusaders and knights who caged their war in suicide.
The brothers died defending no one but their pride in the kingdom.
Drenched their sorrow afterward in drunken brawls for the reward of victory.
Knowing theres countless numbers of enemies at their doorstep.
Not caring not waring not anything but to meet sword to shield just to die for nothing not even sure why they are fighting.
Just to take a suffering order from a broken minded king.
