Believe me I am a liarA Poem by Gerhardus Retief
How can you trust me when you never believe me?
I am the liar of lyrics that made you believe in freedom. Would you mind if I killed you in your sleep and whisper in the nether lands that it was not me? Could you ever forgive me for the curse that I have brought upon us? Shall I knit a name tag to your toe to ready your place for the crypt? Can you hear the chorus that the church is singing for your grave? You can't trust my instincts but can you trust your own? Believe in me I am the liar not you. This bloody irony has revealed the lies I could have spoken. Instead I prayed out the ones I did not want to to tell. The candles and pearls are beautiful in the piano's motion. With a cold wind blow you come to realize I never was the liar when I told you that I was. The pistol's best friend is its chamber full of lead again. I cant say the same for me as mine has become my misery. Could be another lie or another denial not that anyone could understand this empty dream. My own enemy is just another lie but I cannot hear you now since I have been slain to silence forever. © 2011 Gerhardus Retief |
