Spider's prison

Spider's prison

A Poem by Gerhardus Retief

Their crawling down our predictable dreams.
Piercing the very spears we solemnly throw.
Taint the wine we celebrate with from our hands.
Its the spiders of our webbed lives.

Continuous growing stretched nests in our hair.
Following our ghosts before we know it.
Do we know when we die in our nightmares?
These spiders are not much different.

When we dream in denial dreaming all for the sight.
Posters of their many eyes watching our visions.
Their poison is the blood we are tamed to avoid.
Five fingers hung forward to reach out for the binding grip.

Shallow years infinite timing to the oldest elders.
Of all the crawlers that are entombed with our graves.
They are there watching our eternal slumber.
Waiting for the life to fade in their own white prison.
