Bread and Beer
A Poem by Debbie Barry
A new nursery rhyme about 18th Century life. Beer was about 2% alcohol, and safer to drink than unboiled, fresh water, so everyone drank it. Bread was made with the yeasty barm left after brewing.
Bread and Beer
Take the malt,
Brew the beer;
Bake the bread;
Serve it here.
