...buttons...

...buttons...

A Poem by dovetailer
"

wonderful invention...buttons...

"

…buttons…

buttons are such an ingenious things…

simple…yet effective…

a mere tiny device…

when piloted through its corresponding slot

makes a connection…

a circle from a line

the yin and yang

of connectivity

when all our buttons are fastened

we are ready to see and be seen…

the skill of maneuvering the button through its hole

is cause for a pleased smile when learned in youth…

and cause for frustration in autumn years when

our fingers are no longer nimble

buttons come in all sizes…small…medium…large…huge…

in myriad shapes, although round is best…

the way the leading arc of the disc acts like a toe in the door…

eases the slot wider to accommodate its girth

straining for a moment before slipping through the gauntlet of  the buttonhole…

pleasing us…

akin to carnal love, you might observe with a knowing smile…

but you’ll get no argument from me…

made of plastic, metal, leather, bone, fabric…

the options are as endless as the imagination

unbuttoning is the same process…

only backwards…

a process I particularly enjoy now

as I undo the buttons of your blouse…

you wait and smile…

as each button loosed

reveals more…

of you

what a delightful and extraordinary viewpoint~ you imbue an everyday object ~a rote motion that one usually gives little thought with a full bodied character~ much enjoyed!~ =)~
