burningA Poem by dovetailerthere's more to longing than hunger... more to fire than flames...
Burning deep-seated chill possesses me ice-hard and cold devoid of heat in my lack and longing lay logs
of oak seasoned and split since winter
last aromas of smoky ash, inked
newsprint oak and pine kindling assault my
senses I strike a match with sulfurous
blaze and touch a firebrand to dry
tinder... like the passing of a baton from
one racer to another the flame creeps along
the edges of crumpled paper
pages...growing...feeding... a profusion of flame engulfs
split logs fanned flames roar with spastic
intensity beguile me with warming heat and
fascination... as a faithful concubine, with wanton wiles imparts her hedonistic pleasure. captivatingly, her flames flicker
and undulate hypnotically...she mesmerize me seducing heat radiates...caresses
my swarthy skin making me flushed and hot to the
touch I am like an asp held captive by the sweet music of the piper’s
flute... enrapt in the her hiss and
crackle undulating flames impel me to
“Come and taste!” I weaken as she dances for me... seduced by the beauty in her burning... myriad shades of gold with a
tinge of blue, borne on a bed of glowing crimson
coals There is no sound but my
breathing and her hissing as she releases
her essence into the acrid smoke... She fills me with desire to touch “Beware all ye who dare enter
here... I will yield all that I am to
posses her, but she will possess me in the
end and feed on me until I am
nothing...!” © 2010 dovetailerReviews
