Jack's Lament (2005)A Poem by drakinspired by the nightmare before christmasAnd so, there she was - Endowed with grace Clad in silk and flowers In a golden ornate case
The music poured As the air was filled with melodic mourning A rain of rose petals fell from the sky Ebony crows sprang forth to fly
Figures in sable formed a line The casket extended closer to heaven It was the beginning of her time Passing though to the new land
All eyes were on Catherine Filled with sorrow and desire Never did they glance at that thing of dire
In his grave he tossed and turned Beweildered from the music that burned Never had they sung for him He felt it was their burdened sin
They tread the ground with pounding steps Careless of what they did next Knocking over Jack's gravestone Chilled the empty place in his bones
Dust to dust, ash to ash Poor old Jack gets treated like trash All eyes were on glory and grace Not on something of disgrace
Those bucolic nonentities - They never had respect for me Please go away I don't want to suffer another day
But little did he know... There was one who wept for Jack Above his grave stood The weeping willow © 2009 drak |
