See for yourself.

I didn’t write this for you,

but for the lesson which taught me

trust is a fairytale of broken dreams

and empty words strung together

like beads, or pearls,

worn dull and chipped

choking out vitality and hope.

 

I didn’t write this for you

but for the myriad moments

that should have brought smiles,

crystalline laughter in tympanic bursts,

and lightness of heart

but, instead, brought heavy,

salted tears.

 

I didn’t write this for you,

but for the emptiness of soul

within my chest, lingering

in a cavernous abyss

dripping with acidic regret.

 

I didn’t write this

for you.

There is something about this that I REALLY enjoy. It is as if you are saying, no, this isn't about you, this is about what you did to me and who I wish you would have been. There is a bitterness to it that makes it realistic and relatable. Lovely work.
