hood

hood

A Poem by h d e rushin

I have left the dark compartments.

Oblivious to season but far bolder in spring.

Forever there's a land complete of dreams

higher than this one, hillside by hillside.

I can find my way at night even by the

kept star.

I've never seen an ocean. Not that I have

missed its special hiss. Its flying fish,

its mountains under the sea. The stories

of the thousand men who perished by

the Bizmark, holding on in the cold,

grip slipping;

oil, their testicles as black as a frozen lash.

Some who went screaming with lucky sovereign, clutched.

Others just gave in to the wave

ashamed to die, misunderstood. Without

a final hug, a ribbon, a nude arm from a girl,

a gilded bright light,

sex, the sun,

the driver of the wind.

This one moved about the page and around our minds with poetic beauty. So much is given to thought in this wonderful piece. Nicely done.

An enigmatic poem, well reviwed by Angel, that put me on the right track.
You are a talented poet and have writen well here, just one small point ( as I live in Germany ) you spell Bismarck so.Indeed an awful sea battle, you get this just right, excellent.

Ok, this was a true riddle. I did not get it at first (maybe I still don't). I read the feedback you got, and the poem still did not click. I read more of your work and your intelligence and wit became evident. I did some research (After all this work I hope you read some of my stuff and leave some feedback!). This is what I think: although you named this poem "Hood" this poem is really about the Bizmark. You see the Hood saw the ocean, the Bizmark did not! When you wrote "perished by the Bizmark" you meant killed by the Bizmark. Specifically the Hood which was a modified sovereign class ship! The Bizmark saw battle and was sunk in the spring of 1941. So to me this is about the ship Bismark talking about the sinking of the Hood. Did I get it or is this a massive mental cramp?

A provoking read full of vivid imagery - historical and creative. Nicely penned.

Imagery in this one is astounding, 'oil their testicles as black as a frozen lash'....now that's some line!

Love this. The historical aspect and the rhyme and flow. The third stanza has a great rhyming flow to it. Great imagery too. Outstanding work rushin.

A very interesting poem touching on the history of the Bismark. Keep up the good work...:)

Extraordinary and superb! You've written an introduction, aware of thought and light into whatever fogs your mind, then ..
You move into the dramatic terror of the Bismark, the past etched into history, and perhaps into your psyche as if you were part of it.. and that ending.. what i call beautiful sadness wrapped in a veil of reality.
This will be hard to set aside for a while. Should have far more reviews.

coming out from under a hood the insight can be historically blinding...always a pleasure to enter your allegoric word...dana you hold the best DNA for stuff like this..i am always in awe of the skin on paper you secretly show metaphorically speaking...You are my favorite writer to express thy self through journey....amazing piece
