lesbians can fly

lesbians can fly

A Poem by h d e rushin

When I first read the feminist poetry of Adrienne Rich

the sky was dark

to disperse beams of light.

Faces laid in parallel axis.

Airplanes disappeared in thunderstorms

over oceans.

Seclusion was as pure as

intrusion.

And then she spoke to me

bold secrets.

Occas. stood for occasionally.

Last I looked, they gave out

prizes for being human.

Giant fluffy Yogi Bears at carnivals

and state fairs for tossing

rings over the probability of

colored pop bottles. Then

you got the thing to the car

and it didn't fit

so you turned it loose to a mighty

wind

and it sailed the

rest of the distance

home.

Re the title Dana, I never doubted it for a moment.

The imagery you created its a psychadelic kaleidoscope and yet its all there- in black and white

A pleasure

You so often display such rarity of thought and expression. I miss you, writing and sharing and such - yet there is a great delight to come by and read you (after many months of neglect on my part) You are everything I ever wanted to read in a poet. Thank you Dana.

It's just a word. Love is love whatever the persuasion; and I would rather love than hate any day of the week.

These are sharp, intelligent lines.

Beccy.

you make me wake up my sleepy brain...such quick intelligence, you turn tight corners, and do that other thing only elevators can do, and airplanes when they fly into nothing all of a sudden...i really like you

Seems you can write with deep and genuine insight on virtually any topic... and this - especially the ending says so much. For all your man-kind-ity, thank you.
