A Poem by h d e rushin

mother,

84 and speaking her mind,

says of Islam,

"there is no redemption",

where thru the sacrificial

death of Christ

purchased believers

from the slavery of sin.

Shush! I caution her

and in my calm and secret voice.

Tell her of severed heads.

Of blood stained floors.

"Je Suis Charlie"!,

as she holds my arm in defiance

on the black ice

at Right Aid pharmacy.

Snapshot perhaps, but it has sledgehammer power. Mother is right, always will be, that's the wisdom of age speaking. T

i agree with W.k. about this being a snapshot.
the elderly don't believe what they see in this world...
and they don't believe that anyone can do what these people are doing and have redemption...
that definance, slipping on the black ice, and what a touch "Right Aid pharmacy"
but what's really rite about any of it?

"the elderly don't believe what they see in this world"...they obviously know something we don'tread more
Mother is right, freedom of speech is about all we have left.

In a way, I find this a bit of a departure from the normal run of your work--it's more of a snapshot than a painting, if that makes any sense to you. I do not mean that as criticism; it is difficult to take a tightly-framed scene such as this and work enough shading into the margins to create layers of meaning. Well, not so diffiicult for you, apparently.
