A Poem by h d e rushin

And this is why  I like bikini clad women

or middle aged men in hats. And this is why

before I write a poem, I make the most temerarious faces

because poetry is the most dangerous thing to be

done in defiance of reason. And the secrets out on

Carl Sagan and all those who believe in sea dragons

and world worship and words that you dare not

authenticate. Like that part in ET

when he said, to hell with this bullshit suburbia

and even if it means I rattle around at sea level,

home is no chain of islands for me. But a place

in the crumbling sky, a place for ugly, crooked-teeth

imperfections where you can be naked, and dickless

and fly in the sky with smooth skin of green algae.

And thru all of this you will be loved like it was meant

to be. And i'm saying this because love,

when righteously determined, is that irrevocable,

indisputable seal that you tamp down until your

thumbs bleed; that you solemnize for eternity

with wax. If you can find any.

The idea that God is an oversized white male with a flowing beard who sits in the sky and tallies the fall of every sparrow is ludicrous. But if by God one means the set of physical laws that govern the universe, then clearly there is such a God. This God is emotionally unsatisfying... it does not make much sense to pray to the law of gravity... Carl.

If everything made sense we wouldn't have imaginations, ear wax has a constant source, ya hear me? lol..sorry I'm in a mood, a good mood.

shuttled in your endothermic approach to the heart souled, yet alien to such in the behaviorism of believing that we are more then monkey links that constructed tools from well tuned ancestral bone..it's in these discoveries I would rather just be dust from dust..a swirl of everything that shored when light entered this abyss of openness...excellent piece

Your words are like a surgeons knife giving my mind a little nip tuck.. Thanks for the tightening the wrinkles around our heartstrings.. Nice write!!

Carl Sagan bounced a check on me once. True story.

The images here seemingly come at you from all directions (and the fact that I was not the one to come up with the lines "I like bikini clad women/or middle-aged men in hats" is going to keep up for a few nights), but there is an internal logic to the piece, and the final five lines are as good as anything I've ever read (and better than anything I've written, and there's a couple more sleepless nights.)

Oh wow. Instantly in the faves. A great combination of observation and abstraction. Well done. One thing, and it is a minor thing, I might take the s off dangerous or and a one of the before it. But maybe you like it the way it is.
