Androgenesis

Androgenesis

A Poem by h d e rushin
"

for Mr. Tudor.1938-1987.

"

I recall a plum tree in the yard of my youth.

And on different seasons it would blossom so pretty;

each blossom a heartened decay of neptunium.

Then the cold would come and blow the blossoms to smithereens.

And  on those years there would be no fresh ham. Just a hunched over

tree with shiny leaves whose blossoms had blown off. Along

with many jars with screwed off tops in the corner of my room.

(enter suddenly the moral here). That a poem is not the speculator

that plunks down righteousness. That old rumpled dudes

in the forest aren't the only ones that have wasted their

lives on a tedium such as this.

plumb as distinct from plum? knowing how crafty you are I can't say. Spring here. Blown petals of pear and crabapple in lieu of snowflakes. Radish, collard, mustard, broccoli, cauliflower and the green parts of red onions peeking in the garden. Strawberry, peppers, tomatoes, and eggplant incubating in my giant cold frame or midget green house (point of view dependent) awaiting their cue for a big entrance. Looking over the periodic table for neptunium without success, but if Mendeleev could name an element after Mickey's dog neptunium can't be far behind. Perhaps one year I'll try to raise some ham bushes, I like the sound of that.

Do you know if a woman "cans" tomatoes during her menstrual cycle likely every jar will spoil? Can you imagine after raising, picking, ,boiling , peeling , slicing, stuffing , pressure cooking and waiting for them to cool enough to store on basement shelves only to find every jar has gone south? oy vey !

I think I am an old plumb tree with the leaves blown off...but I have memories of those good blossoms, and many springs...

and sometimes I feel a tedium to my poems...nothing spectacular...just an attempt to bloom again.

I relate this way...thanks for your words.
