there are things that should never happen to you.

there are things that should never happen to you.

A Poem by h d e rushin

I am no good dancer

but not the one, never to dance at all. And on those occasions when I do

my right hand flings in the air as if picking the grapes from the belly of Dionysus.

Like on Soul Train when Don Cornelius commanded and the pop-lockers went vertical ,

or like the w***e who caresses the fallen testicles of life's oldest lover,

there are things that should never happen to you.

Alone in the night sky, the asteroid clips the top of my home

but only lops off the side nearest the neighbor who thinks he's the god

of every season. So he peers into my broken bedroom

during "Antiques Road Show" the fine arts edition, only to

witness what I have come to call sex on Saturday nights.

Where the brown teddy bear implores  me to "Go Deeper! That's it,

right there! Now spank it"! He screams.

"Twist my missing ears"

Wow...AMAZING. ..I don't think any other words are necessary!

And there are things best left to the imagination as well! I think I might well have averted my eyes at that point.

This is written with sparkling wit and has a joie de vivre that had me reaching for those grapes.

Beccy.

I wish my muse came to visit like yours does

maybe I should leave out a bottle of bourbon . . . maybe then she would dance

Don Cornelius? Seriously? Dana, you entertain the crap out of me. I love your mix of ancient and street! This is another one I am going to have to read a few more times to get the full effect. CD

This is wit personified. No more to be said. This takes you there and then controls your reactions perfectly. This is funny, tragic and superbly observed. This is how to do it. As Lord Flasheart probably said to his Teddy bear.

love this...oh that Teddy bear....always there when we need him....

and it would be that side of the house lopped off...

meanwhile the neighbor is having his own teddy bear...
laughing at your dance moves, knowing he will never get out onto the floor himself.

lol. This is hilarious, I like the myth reference in the beginning. Your poems are so dynamic dana, that I often have to read your work at least twice before beginning to grasp the totality of what hides beneath your words. I thought this was very articulately put. Thanks for sharing. This was good.
