No, Mars will not look the same as the earth this week, or ever.

No, Mars will not look the same as the earth this week, or ever.

A Poem by h d e rushin
"

for chris.

"

they said that if I wanted to see Mars to just look up at the moon,

then let your eyes drift downward to the right of that and there it will be.

Naked and wanting of people and their troubles since all of their native

species have long since become extinct. So forget that bullshit about the

world not getting warmer. Or how the polar ice caps became unfrozen.

I still own a pick from the "big-round-natural-70's" that I use now to slice

my lemons into neat angels yet realizing that everything on earth

can't be use for different things. I watched my father use the heavy

monkey wrench for a hammer, the one left there by the plumber who

couldn't unstop the toiler until he turned the giant cut off nob with

the mighty force of Underdog. Or until his finger-tips were red and the little pinky

one with the wedding ring attached, was swollen. Is it not beautiful

how the human body works? When Negro's needed the water shut off,

no voice moved aside the Red Sea. Just my uncle took down his

stack of albums from the plastic milk crate and the dust was brushed

from Isaac Hayes' "Black Moses" to reveal untold charms

in the link of his big, golden

chain.

well, maybe not 'ever' (we being such copycats), but not today while we're still addressed by the things that made and what we make of them...POETRY...the way we assemble the world with our peek-a-boo memory of looking for Mars and that wrench-turned-hammer, ingredients, links, something to say that makes sense of this ongoing f*****g world, and a life that sees the mix of it

You have a good memory I think. People say poetry is all about lying or whatever, but I don't think it should be. At least, this seems authentic, dear Dana.

I wonder what Darnell Hillman looks like these days, or Oscar Gamble--balding probably, and that's a shame. Afro picks slicing lemons into angels, Isaac Hayes and Underdog. Times like this I just shake my head in wonderment.
