Astrology lettersA Poem by h d e rushinor how cartoons changed the traffic in my brain. At 8:00 o'clock AM in 76 the "Harlem Globetrotters" taught me that Black men could tell their own stories. At 8:30 the "Popcorn Machine" taught me that good men could be green; that difference in this world of sameness doesn't mean you kill yourself. At 9:00 "Pebbles and Bam Bam" showed me that the vulnerable could be captured in the body of a child and that real strength was only a stones throw away. At 9:30 "Bullwinkle" made the prednisone I would take 40 years in the future unmask my inner fear of pain and loneliness. At 10:00 "Scooby Doo" made me laugh out loud at my prom date when her legs closed tight as a witches a*s. At 10:30 "Porky Pig and Friends" showed me that I didn't have anything but Polaroids of flying things in a room full of ludicrous, cheap spins, where romance was a rich and abounding love poem stuttered out in a sty of profound ache. At 11:00 "Josey and the Pussycats" taught me that 'a green thumb is not a Goldfinger' and that good looks was the crime, so quasi episcopal/ so susceptible to where you come from/ what your zip code is/ who you eventually want to marry that nothing else matters much other than if you have nice legs, a nice a*s and could walk a straight line in heels. At 11:30 "Tarzan" showed me that you could love the jungle without really loving the natives. At 12:00 "American Bandstand" taught me that the circadian rhythm was off a tic and that dance was this insoluble progression of cardboard cutouts to mordant morals and that Chubby Checker wasn't chubby at all by 2020 standards..
