Haunted Heart

The heart is a complex muscle, the emotional one more so...

Heart hungered connection, 

created desire, 

destiny determined direction.

Forward found, 

finely tuned sensitivity, 

longingly looking out cautiously.

Happily holding back hope.

Haunted past, hounded regret. 

Brave face, faced forward,

perilously fraught memories, defined present and future.

Chained soul scared of repeated resurgence,

villainously visited former ghosts and ghastly specters, 

tormented, mental and spiritual imprisonment, 

gas lit, withdrawn and withheld...

The heart will take you on a roller coaster of emotions, hang on for the ride....

The poem gives me the impression of a series of snapshot images thrown onto a screen like a 3D viewfinder telling a story of love lost and broken hearts. A bit pensive and disconsolate but a good read. I enjoyed it. I like the form.

A very fine tuned piece in tune with the music beating in your heart, David. Excellent use of various figures of speech. Emotions are difficult to keep in check and can dictate to us at times, but that said they are a very necessary part of our life. This poem with its string of alliterations, and lilst like presentation of images read like the breathless panting or rather beating of a heart which felt so appropriate for the title. Nicely constructed.
