Fire's Burn

A fire can bring life and death........

For fear of the burn, I stay away from the fire. 

I was once marred by cruel flame but not again. 

Chilled to the core alone I shiver. 

To feel warmth is my hearts desire, 

but no the past is ever before my eyes, 

singe me once, is my new motto.  

Don't the others know what fire can do, 

the destruction it brings. 

Sure it gives life and light, 

sure by its light I can see love one's smiling faces. 

my scars are a reminder of what else it can do, 

I must stay away for fear of another burn.

very thought-provoking. fire is a great metaphor for how we approach the world. it can be beautiful, useful, but also dangerous. such is life. i truly appreciate the honesty here. i feel like the persona has difficulty trusting themselves, or lack the knowledge on how to overcome hurt. i know many are in this situation. this is real as it gets, the imagery, allegory, were well utilised to explore a very taboo topic: one's hurt.
