DevourA Poem by Dave W.Pure love is the desire of the soulDoes love
always require a devouring hunger, Is lust its
catalyst to motivate, is its hunger that which feeds longing, where is
the purity of compassion, where is
the sacrifice of oneself, where is the agape, I loved, I loved so
hard, I loved so
true, all of it
mistaken as a mask for more, her goodbye
was swift as lighting, as bitter
as wormwood, as jarring
as a door slammed in the face, sacrifice
was my pleasure, for her I
wept soar, for her prayers Were made splayed on the floor, one day communication then no more, there was not even a hint of loves romance in my heart, yet I still
loved her, goodbye is
such a tiring phrase, I loathe
it, why does
love have to hurt, please have
my heart I no longer want it. © 2025 Dave W.Author's Note
