Mask of a smileA Poem by Dave W.Kind of hurting and confused
Within in love,
I searched for the desire that once lived in my soul. Merriment and music, friendships and family, ceased from filling my cup. It is a strange place to be, being filled with the sorrow that comes from being emptied by the trials of life. I called out for the reason why and questioned the Most High deafening silence was the reply. Outside of pain, I am callused to that which felt so familiar. Understanding of life has left me, I wander in the dark. Light that shone so bright, now only hurts my eyes, as a raven's chick seeks the comfort of a wing so to I, the cover of night. Let me hide my wounded spirit within the mask of a smile. To make isolation a companion would make life a bit more bearable, then this disconnected heart could finally heal from the many blessings of life it's had to endure. I suppose none of this matters, in the end nothing lasts, love has and expiration date, friends for life stay for only a season, all is transitory at best I am a ship in the storm, rudderless, fighting to stay afloat.
