WY-PrologueA Chapter by Angie Diane♥♥Prologue She was sitting there waiting for a text from her best friend. Her mother had just picked her up from her house. She wanted to make sure that had gotten home safely. That had always been there thing. They both did that when they had gotten picked up from the others house. She couldn’t wait until she had heard back from her. She sighed and thought to herself, “What’s taking so long? It doesn’t take her that long to get home. It normally takes five minutes.” “Serena, did you get home yet?” She sent Serena a text. She couldn’t wait to hear from her best friend. She needed to know that she had gotten home safely. She didn’t know what she would do without her best friend. She heard a knock on her door. “Jade, you need to come down stairs because dinner is done.” Jade got up from her seat on her bed. She looked down at her phone. She still didn’t get a word back from Serena. She couldn’t wait to hear her. Jade was getting worried now. It didn’t take Serena that long to get back to her. “Jade, now!” “I’m coming, Mom, please stop yelling.” Jade said with a sigh. She hated when her mother yelled at her for nothing. Jade knew that her mother worked hard, but she didn’t need her to be mad for no reason. She was worried about her best friend. Jade sat down at the kitchen table and turned the television on. Her mother liked to watch the news while they ate dinner. Her father was already at the table with a newspaper in his hands. Her dad hated when the television was on when he was trying to read the paper. He was grumpy when he didn’t get his way. “I don’t know what to do. I haven’t heard back from Serena yet. I really need to know that she’s safe.” Jade thought again. She looked at her phone. She still didn’t get an answer. She could feel tears starting to swell in her eyes. She started to think a couple of things that she shouldn’t have. “What if something bad happened to her and her mom?” “…for some local news there has been an accident on the corner of third and fourth street. Two were seriously injured and one was still alive. The driver of the other car was very drunk and was driving on the wrong side of the road. The driver then crashed into an oncoming car. The two people that were hit by the driver were identified to be Serena Thomas and Harmony Thomas.” Jade heard a news reporter say. Jade’s eyes opened wider than they had been before. “Mother, may I be excused?” Jade said. “Why would you need to be excused?” her mother asked with an annoyed look. Jade looked at her mother angrily. Hadn’t she been paying attention to the news? Her mother was the only one to watch the news in the house. Jade was forced to watch the news every day. “Serena was in a car accident mom! Didn’t you watch the news? I need to go see how she’s doing!” Jade shouted. Her mother’s eyes widened. She hadn’t been paying attention because she had her mind on other things. “You can go.” Her father spoke up. Jade could feel tears coming into her eyes. She was really worried now that she heard that Serena was in an accident. Her father had gotten up from the table. He got his keys from off the kitchen table. “I will drive you to the hospital. I know you are seriously worried. I know that Serena would want you to be at the hospital.” Jade knew that she could count on her father. She ran upstairs to get her bag and her shoes. She put them on quickly and ran to the car. Her father drove off to the hospital. Jade knew that it would take twenty minutes to get to the hospital. Jade was going to be impatient. She wanted to know how her friend was doing. Twenty Minutes Later They arrived to the hospital and Jade ran in as fast as she could. When she entered the hospital she could see Serena’s kid brother, Tom, and her father sitting in the waiting room. He was pacing back and forth. Serena’s brother was just sitting in the chair not moving. He was oblivious to what was going on. Jade knew that was because he was only four years old. Jade went over to Serena’s father. He hadn’t seen her come in. She tapped him on the shoulder and he looked down to see her. He hugged her tightly. “Have you heard any news Mr. Thomas?” She asked. “I haven’t heard a thing. I don’t know what’s going on. I just really hope that they are able to save them both.” Serena’s father responded. Jade’s dad had walked into the hospital a couple of minutes later. “Thank you for bringing, Jade. I know that Serena would want her here.” “No problem. They are best friends and I know that Jade has been worried about her.” Jade’s father said. While Serena’s dad and her dad talked Jade went and held Tom. He was starting to cry. Jade knew what to do. “Don’t worry, Tom, it’s going to be okay.” Jade said soothingly, rubbing his back, and trying to keep him calm. Eventually she had gotten Tom to fall asleep. A few moments later a doctor came out. He had a sad look on his face. Serena’s father ran up to him. “I have good news and bad news, sir.” The doctor said with a sad look in his eyes. Jade knew that it was bad news. She was sure of it. “Which would you like to hear first?” “I would like to hear the good news.” He said with a gulp. “Your wife is going to be fine. For the bad news, I’m sorry to tell you that your daughter didn’t make it. She had too many serious injuries and we couldn’t get to them in time. A lot of her ribs had broken and stabbed into her lungs. Her lungs filled up with blood. She wasn't able to breathe on her own. I am sorry.” The doctor said. Jade could feel her heart break in two. She dropped her bag on the floor. “SERENA!” she curled into a ball and cried. She couldn’t take it. She didn’t know what to do without her best friend… © 2012 Angie Diane♥♥Author's Note
