Chapter 13

Nicole and I haven’t really spoken to each other at lunch for the last couple of days. I didn’t invite her to the picnic either. I really don’t want her to be here. Drama is something I hate. I’m happy that Alex was coming over. He made me smile for the last couple of days. I was still worried about him because he still had dark circles under his eyes. I’m glad that he didn’t pass out again.

I heard a soft knock on the front door. Nicole was standing there with a sad look on her face. “I want to apologize to you Aubrey. I’m really sorry that I forgot that Saturday was your family day. I honestly did forget. I really should have realized that it was Carson’s three month anniversary. I know I’m a bad friend. I really hope you can forgive me.”

I smiled when I saw that she came to apologize. We may have had a tiny argument a couple of days ago, but I knew I could count on her. “I forgive you, Nikki. I should have reminded you on Friday. That was my bad. Do you want to stay? We’re having a picnic. I should have told you Monday, but I didn’t expect us to talk again so soon.”

“I would love to stay for the picnic. Who else is going to be here?”

“Becky, Jess, Theresa, and Alex are coming.”

“You’re right to be worried about him. I don’t know what’s going on his life. That was a foolish thing to say,” Nikki responded looking down at the ground. I looked down at the ground too since I was still worried about him. I have a feeling he won’t tell me anything.

“I know you were upset because you had been worried about me. I’m sorry that I didn’t respond. It was just a really painful day for my whole family…I just couldn’t answer because of my depression. Anyways…I’m going to go help set up for the picnic.”

“I’ll help too,” Nicole said with a big smile on her face. I was happy that all was forgiven. I really did want my best friend to be here. I was just angry the other day. I don’t know how we could have a party without Nikki. Mason also came out to help us set the tables. My mother was cooking some of the food in the house and my father was setting up the grill. I was going to make burgers and hotdogs. Mason was setting up the station for me. Nicole helped him out with that also since there was a lot to carry. Everyone was going to be showing up pretty soon.

I heard a knock on the door. Alex, Becky, and Jess were all here. They all smiled at me and I led them to the backyard. It’s been a while since I had so many friends over. I was in a pretty good mood since Nikki and I made up. I was really happy about it.

“Hey Nicole, what are you doing here,” Becky asked surprised.

“Aubrey and I made up and she asked me to stay,” Nicole responded.

Before long I heard another knock on the door. It was probably Theresa. I invited her since we were becoming fast friends. Plus she helped me out on Monday. After ten minutes or so my parent’s and Mason’s guests arrived. I started cooking the burgers and hotdogs.

Alex walked over to me and sat down in a chair beside me. I was still cooking so we didn’t really speak much. He seemed to be content with just sitting next to me. “Do you want anything to snack on? We have chips and other things while we’re waiting on the burgers and hotdogs.”

“Thanks, I already had some. I just wanted to keep you company. You seemed pretty lonely being here all by yourself,” Alex responded.

“Thank you, Alex. The burgers and hotdogs should be ready shortly,” I responded with a smile. I was happy when they were done. I didn’t want them to get cold or anything. People were lining up for the food. I had them on plates and I left the station. Mason and his group of friends were sitting under a tree across from me. He seemed to be having a good time with his friends. I was happy to see that. I want my little brother to be happy. He deserved to be.

“So how is everyone enjoying the picnic,” I asked my group of friends.

“It’s going pretty well. I’m having a lot of fun. Thank you for inviting me. I hope no stupid people come to crash the picnic. They weren’t invited anyways,” Theresa responded. I heard a knock on the gate. It was Michelle and Jonathan. Who said they were allowed to come to my house. They weren’t even invited to the picnic.

“What are you two doing here? You weren’t invited. I suggest you two leave,” I said while crossing my arms. Alex, Theresa, Becky, Jess, and Nicole were by my side within seconds. My parents were upset that Jonathan and Michelle were here. They knew that I didn’t like either of them.

“We’re just here to invite all of you to come to the mall with us next week.”

“No, we won’t go to the mall with you next week. Now leave,” we all said in unison. We all looked at each other. That was pretty creepy.

“Why weren’t we invited to the picnic? It seems like everyone’s having a good time here,” Michelle responded. That was an extremely stupid question.

“You weren’t invited because we’re not friends. Now get out of here,” I said at the top of my lungs. They looked taken aback and then ran away. Why do they have to show up every time I’m hanging out with my friends? It was starting to get on my nerves.

Alex pulled me into his arms right after they left. I could feel tears in my eyes. I really don’t want my day ruined because of those idiotic people. I really don’t need that right now.

“Please stay away. I didn’t do anything to you. We aren’t even together. Please just leave me alone,” I screamed into the night. I was running from someone or something. I don’t know what it was, but it was chasing me. I just wanted to be left alone.

I tripped on a piece of bark. The creature caught up with me. It pinned me to the ground. The creatures slashed at my chest. I threw it off me. I start running again.

Blood was soaking through my shirt. My blood was falling to the ground as I ran. I could feel myself getting weaker and weaker. The creature was close on my trail. I tried to gather the energy to run faster.

I could see a light far somewhere far off in the distance. It looked like there was a house in the nearby forest. I ran as fast as I could to the light. The creature had ceased following me. It seemed as if it was scared of the light.

Before I could even get in the door someone caught me. It was Alex. He had a concerned look on his face. I slowly felt myself losing consciousness.

I woke up with cold sweat running down my face. I started to shake a little bit. I looked around and was happy to see I wasn’t in a forest. I was in my bedroom and Mason was giving me a concerned look. He was sleeping in my room tonight. He was afraid to sleep alone for some reason. Maybe he had a nightmare.

            “Are you okay, sis?”

“I’m alright. Thank you, Mace,” I responded and held him in my arms tightly. We both calmed down again and he fell asleep with ease. I wasn’t so lucky because I couldn’t fall asleep at all. What triggered this dream to happen?

I love her dream but again another awesome chapter. I wonder if Michelle and Jonathon will ever get the point that they aren't liked... Hate both of them but when Aubrey is upset Alex is so sweet.
