Chapter 19

I’m happy that it’s Friday. Michelle and Jonathan were bugging us all week. They were still trying to break us up. I don’t care what they do. They will never get Alex and I to break up. Like Alex said they deserve each other. They were in a loveless relationship. Jonathan just realized that he still loved me. He should have thought about that before I got with Alex. Actually he shouldn’t have broken up with me if he still loved me. I got over him pretty quickly because of Alex.

I heard a knock on my front door and knew that it was Nicole. She was followed in by her little sister, Abbie. I had forgotten that Nikki had a sister. She talked more about her brother than her little sister. Abbie smiled shyly since she hadn’t seen me in long time. She’s been shy since she was a lot younger. “Hello Abbie, how are you? It’s been such a long time since I’ve seen you.”

“I’m good. I know! It has been forever. You don’t come around as much as you used to. I want to see Mason too,” she responded with a sly smile. She was holding onto Nikki’s leg. It made laugh because she’s still so young. She still didn’t understand a lot of the world. I pulled her from Nikki’s leg and gave her the biggest hug ever. She hugged back, but she was still a little shy. That’s alright though because she hasn’t seen me in such a long time.

“That’s good. I’ll show you to his room,” I responded. She followed me to Mace’s room. I knocked on the door. When he came out he looked a little upset. I wonder what was going through his head. I was going to ask him before I went to bed tonight. He may come lay in my arms tonight anyway. He smiled a little when he saw we had a guest. He didn’t want to be upset when we had visitors. Like me he didn’t know we were going to be graced by Abbie.

Nicole came into the room a few seconds later. She gave Mason a huge hug because she didn’t hug him at the picnic. Mason smiled, but still wasn’t in all that great of a mood. I was worried because I’m always worried about my baby brother. “Sorry, I had to bring her along. Mom wanted her to get out of the house. She may be social, but she doesn’t get out a lot. Most of her friends are busy during the week. Their parents don’t let them out a lot. I feel bad for her. I wanted her to come and enjoy herself. She’ll be able to talk to us or Mason. It will be a fun night.”

I nodded and looked over at Mason. I could still see the sadness in his eyes. I was probably the only one that could tell right now. “What could be going on with him? I hope he’s able to tell me after Nikki and Abbie are sleeping.”

“So what do you want to do first? Do you want to watch movies, play video games, or do makeovers,” Nicole asked distracting me from my thoughts. I blinked and looked over at her. I guess I spaced out for a minute.

“I say we start out with video games, after that our makeovers, and then settle in to watch some movies,” I responded. I heard Nicole’s ringtone go off. Her facial expression changed from happiness to sadness within seconds. I could only guess was that Nicholas was calling. She decided to ignore the phone call. “It was Nicholas, wasn’t it?”

“Yes, I haven’t answered him in a week. He’s mad at me because of it. He hasn’t said anything rude to me, but I feel as if he’s stalking me now,” Nikki responded. I could see her lips starting to quiver. I pulled her into a tight hug. I knew she was trying her hardest not to cry. She calmed down a couple of seconds later. “Oh, I forgot. I need to call my mother since she told me to call her when we got here. She wanted to make sure we got here safely.”

She went to go make the phone call and I went to check on Mason and Abbie. It seemed like they were enjoying spending time together. Mason was talking about his new girlfriend. Abbie looked a little down because of it. “Hey Mace, can we talk for a minute?”

“Sure Bre, I’ll be right back, Abbie,” Mason responded. I pulled him into my room to talk for a couple of seconds.

“I think Abbie likes you. Please try not to talk about your girlfriend, okay,” I told him.

“Alright, sis, I’ll change the subject,” he said. He was still smiling pretty wide because he was happy to have a girlfriend. He was excited when he showed me a picture of her. It was really sweet the way he cared for her.

“Thank you. I need to talk to you later, okay? I’ll come into your room once Abbie and Nicole are sleeping. I know you’ll still be awake. You haven’t really been sleeping much unless you’re lying down with me.”

“You’re like a pillow to me. When we were little I always used to sleep next to you. Mom told me when I loved you more than everyone else except for her. She told me I would cry unless I was with either one of you,” Mason responded.

“I know. I love that you’re attached to me. Our bond has stayed the same since we were little. Get back to Abbie now. I’ll talk to you in a couple of hours,” I responded and ruffled his hair before he left.

“Okay,” he responded, rolled his eyes at me for ruffling his hair, and then went back into my room. She wasn’t as sad when they changed the subject. Nicole was crying in my room once I got back. I went over to her and hugged her. She cried on my shoulder. I was feeling horrible for her.

“What happened while you were downstairs,” I asked her.

“Nicholas sent me a text saying he was upset with me. He doesn’t like the way I’m treating him. He said he deserves someone else. I’m not good enough for him. Is it sad I’m crying over this, Aubrey? Let’s do something to get my mind off of this.”

“We need to talk first. You need to break up with him. Please, this is slowly killing you on the inside. He doesn’t love you as much as you think he does. Please listen to me for once. You will find someone that loves you for who you are. They will treat you right. They won’t say stuff like that to you.”

“You’re right. I think I’m going to break up with him tonight. I want to tell him in person. Would you like to come with me,” Nicole asked me.

“Sure, I would love to be there for that,” I said with a smile. She smiled after that. We got into her car. We needed to be back before curfew. We drove over to Nicholas’ house. You won’t believe what happened when we got there.
