Chapter 31

-2 Months Later-

Michelle was sitting with us at lunch. Alex and I were getting closer than I thought we would be. He was kissing me on the cheek as we were walking in the hallway. Nicole and her new boyfriend were getting closer as well. I was glad that she had found someone that was right for her.

“How are you today, Michelle?” I asked her.

“I’m alright. I just feel a little sick. I eat a lot more to support the baby.” She said. She was happy that her stomach wasn’t showing yet. The only people that knew that she was pregnant was Jess, Becky, Nicole, Alex, and I. She wasn’t going to tell anyone else. Jonathon’s parents knew as well and they had tears in their eyes when they told them. They were going to have a grandchild. Jonathon was their only child. I knew it was tough on his parents to lose him.

“You will be a great mother when the baby is born. What do you want the baby to be?”

“I want it to be a boy so I can name it Jonathon Jr. That would make his parents happy and me as well. So how are you?”

“I’m pretty good. Have you been thinking about Jonathon a lot?”

“Yes, I have. It’s been pretty hard these last couple of months, but I am happier. I know Jonathon is in a better place.” Michelle said with a smile. She knew he wasn’t in pain anymore and I knew he was too.

I looked over at Alex and he looked like he had something on his mind. I was wondering it was. I had a couple of things on my mind too.

“Hey babe, can I talk to you after school? It is something really important that I need to ask you.” He said with a big smile on his face. His black eyes were filling with happiness. That made me smile, but I was wondering what was on his mind that was so important to tell me. I was wondering about it all day in class.

I was distracted from my work. I was looking out into space. I was thinking about Alex and everything that has happened within the last couple of months. Of course we argued a little bit, but every couple went through that.

I couldn’t wait until after school. I was walking with Michelle to her locker. She was smiling a little bit. I wonder if she knew what it was about.

“What do you think it is about?” I asked her.

“I actually don’t know, but it must be something really important to both of you.” I didn’t know if she was lying or not. I couldn’t tell because I knew she was a good liar. I guess she may have known.

“Are you lying to me?”

“No, I’m not lying. I truly don’t know what it’s about. It’s not like he tells me stuff. We aren’t that close you know?” She said. She was still upset that they didn’t get along as well as she would like.

“I can believe you.” I said with a smile. Michelle was smiling, but she looked sad underneath it all. I wonder if everything with Jonathon was still getting to her. I think it was. It was coming up to the two month anniversary of his death. Now that I think about Jonathon. I think about my brother his anniversary is coming up in a week. I was a little sad thinking about it. Michelle noticed the mood I was in and gave me a hug.

“Are you okay, Aubrey?”

“Yes, I am just thinking about my brother. I can’t believe that it’s been almost six months since he’s been gone. His anniversary is in a week.”

“You’ll be okay. You can talk to me if you need to.” Michelle said giving me another hug. I was glad that she and I were becoming closer.

“Thank you so much. Hey, I will see you later. I have to go see what Alex wants.” I said with a big smile on my lips.

“See you later!” She said and gave me a big smile. I couldn’t wait to see what he wanted to say.
