Chapter 13

Tonight I am going to have a late night. I am going to be hanging out with Mason tonight. I was glad to see my little brother. He was having a hard time again. Nightmares were getting worse for him. I know it was hard for him to keep having these nightmares. Mother has told me his eyes have been blood shot and he looks like a ghost. His skin has gotten paler and I knew he was tired from the lack of sleep that he was getting. I was really worried about him.

“Hey babe, just calling you to see how you are doing and when will you be coming home?” Alex asked me. I didn’t really have an answer it depended on how long Mason and I were going to be out. I knew we were going to go out to dinner. I know Mason wanted to go to the mall, but we decided to do that tomorrow. It is kind of late for us to go to the mall now. So we decided maybe a movie and dinner. I think I would like to go see a movie. I don’t know which movie we were going to see. I didn’t want it to be some gushy romance movie though. I was one of the few girls that was a mix of girly girl and tomboy. I used to love playing basketball, but now I can’t do it because of the pregnancy.

“I will be home whenever. I don’t really know. I think Mason and I are going the movies today. We don’t know which movie to see. Do you have any suggestions?” Alex always knew what good movies are playing. He would give me suggestions to go see movies. They would always be amazing choices.

“Why don’t you just go see The Green Hornet? That was a great movie. I loved the action in it. I would think that your brother would love it. Do you like superhero movies?” I glared at him. He should have known full well that I do like superhero movies. I mean I loved them to death. My favorite hero was Spiderman though. I always loved spiders when I was a kid. I guess it was because when I was little I would always watch Spiderman. Mother was terrified of spiders though. I didn’t want to keep a spider, but when I told mother I liked them she freaked out. She had that phobia. I would completely understand, but I don’t know what I have a fear of.

“You know full well that I like Superhero Movies!” I said to him.

“I forgot. I’m sorry, but you will enjoy the movie then. I have to go. I have to get ready to go to work. I am working late tonight. I will be home after you. Bye honey. Have a nice time with your brother. Maybe the three of us can go to the mall together tomorrow.” Alex said and hung up. I know if Alex came with us to the mall all I would hear is sports this and sports that. I would mostly hear about football which I have no care for. The boys knew that, but they knew how much I enjoyed basketball. I would sometimes also sit down and watch baseball sometimes. It didn’t matter which team would be on. I mostly watched the Yankees or the Mets though.

I got in my car and pulled out of the driveway. I was going to pick Mason up from home. It would good to see Mom and Dad. I haven’t seen them in a while. It’s a shame that I have been busy at work and am tired by the time I get home and all of the stress with that Melody girl. She was still stalking me which was annoying. I don’t know why Alex hasn’t gone with me to the police station. I knew we were both busy, but we had time to go. It was sad that I was letting someone like her get to me. I forgot to mention to my parents that I was pregnant. I wanted it to be a surprise for them. Mason knew because he was always talking to me.

When I got to the house I walked up to the door and unlocked the door. I still had the keys to my house. My parents gave me a set just in case I wanted to come stay the weekend. “Mother, Father, I’m here.” I said.

They both came out into the living room! They looked at me with wide eyes. My mother’s eyes filled with tears. “H-Honey, a-are y-you pregnant?”

“Yes, ma’am, I wanted it to be a surprise for you and Daddy. I haven’t had much time to visit. I have been busy working. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen you. I’m so happy I got to come see you today.”

“How far along are you?” My father asked. I didn’t know how he was really responding to the pregnancy. He looked happy and sad at the same time. I gave my father a hug. I know that he wasn’t happy that his little girl was growing up. I know that it would be hard on me when my little boy was growing up.

“I’m almost five months along.” I said.

“Do you know the gender of the baby?” My mother asked me. I nodded and she just looked at me happily.

“What is the baby?” they asked together.

“It’s a boy.” I replied with happiness. I had always wanted a boy when I was a kid. I was glad that I actually got my wish. Alex said he wanted either a boy or a girl. He didn’t care which it was. He just wanted me to be happy. I wanted him to be happy. I knew secretly he wanted a boy over a girl. He said eventually we could try for another baby. We want a girl then.

“I’m so happy for you.” I just smiled and saw Mason in the corner. He had a small smile on his face and he looked pale. It looked like he hadn’t eaten anything in days. I just nodded at him and he nodded back. We were about to leave. Mason looked a little happy. He was coming to spend the night at my house again.

We went to go see the movie and it was amazing. Then we went out to dinner. We went to Houlihan’s. I loved having their parmesan chicken sandwich. Mason ordered steak, but I don’t eat steak much, but before I ordered my sandwich I ate a salad. My child needed the nutrients.  I couldn’t wait to feel him kick some more.

“Sis, I’m sorry that you have to deal with me in this state.” He said looking out the window. His eyes were saddened. He looked like he wanted to cry.

“Are the nightmares that bad?” I asked. He just nodded slowly and he was crying.

“It’s hard for me to be happy when these nightmares are getting worse. I feel like they are going to affect me, but I know they will not. I just want those nightmares to go away. When I’m with you I never seem to have them. Sis, please let me stay with you for the rest of the year. Please talk Mom and Dad into it. I don’t want to keep feeling this pain.” He said. I pulled him into my arms to calm him down. He seemed a lot happier. He calmed down and I ruffled his hair.

“I will talk to mother and father about it in the morning. We should get home.” I said. We paid for the bill and then left. When I got home I saw something that I didn’t want to see…
