Love and DedicationA Story by Angie Diane♥♥Lucy was sitting on the doctor’s chair swinging her legs back and forth. Her parents were standing outside with the doctor. Lucy tugged at her light brown hair. She was waiting for her parents and her doctor to come into the room. She had always been nervous while she was in doctor’s offices. She could hear her mother’s voice from outside the door. Lucy couldn’t hear what they were talking about. Her parents didn’t want her to know right now. She was humming one of her favorite songs while looking around the office. “I am sorry this is happening to you. I think that it would be best for her to get a surgery, but it seems like the tumor is too big to take off of her brain. I won’t be able to do it because I know there is a risk that she may die. If you don’t get the tumor taken out she will die. I am very sorry that you had to find out the hard way.” The doctor said. Her mother looked down sadly at her. Her father didn’t know how to react. He just looked at the doctor. His eyes were cold and he was thinking. He didn’t know what to say. He didn’t want to lose his little girl. If he did then he wouldn’t be able to go on. Lucy’s father knew his wife would be the same way. That was their miracle baby. Her mother couldn’t get pregnant that easily. She had a five percent chance of having a baby. “We can’t lose her. She is the only daughter that we have.” Her mother said. “I really don’t want to risk the chance of losing her. I just don’t like losing a child either. It’s my job to help the patients get better not kill them. I am still very sorry.” He said. He walked away and her parents stood there still in shock. They didn’t know what to say. How were they going to tell their little girl that she had a brain tumor? She was only four years old. She wouldn’t understand what a brain tumor was. “Mommy, daddy, are you okay?” She asked when they came back in. Lucy could see the tears in their eyes. “Yes, honey. We are okay.” Her father responded knowing that Lucy’s mother wouldn’t answer. “Okay.” Lucy responded. Her father picked her up off the table. He put her down on the floor. She skipped ahead of them. Lucy was such a happy child. Her parents smiled at her even though they were devastated. -Couple of Hours Later- “We are going to have to find a new doctor for her.” Lucy’s father said. “What if we can’t find a doctor that will help?!” Her mother said. “We will. We just have to look.” Her father said. He was trying to soothe his wife at the same time. She had been in hysterics since they had gotten home. They understood that they had a fifty percent chance that their little girl was going to die. They were searching for doctors online. They were going to visit a lot of these doctors. They didn’t know if they were going to find someone to help. They knew that it would take love and dedication to find a doctor to help them. Her mother spent the next few hours looking for over twenty doctors. They were going to have various appointments for their daughter. Her parents were going to miss a lot of work to find the right help for their daughter. “Honey, we are going to have to take you to a couple of doctors. I know you don’t like going, but we want you to get better.” Her father told her. Lucy started to cry because she hated going to the doctor. Her father held her as tight as he could. -20 doctors later- Lucy was again sitting in another doctor’s office. She was swinging her legs back and forth. She had tears in her eyes. She didn’t want to be at the doctor’s anymore. She had been going to the doctor for months now. She was tired of it. “Honey, don’t cry. We are trying to find a doctor to help.” Her mother said holding her. Lucy calmed down a little bit, but she was still upset. The doctor had come into the room. He was looking down at the chart. He couldn’t believe how big the tumor was. “This brain tumor is really huge, but I will try to help you the best I can. I don’t want you to lose her. I know she is important to you.” Her father knew that eventually they would find a doctor that would help them with their case. Her mother had doubts about it, but she was happy that they had finally found a doctor that was going to help them with the case. “Please do all you can to help is! We want our little girl to live a happy and healthy life.” Her mother screamed. “I will help her all that I can. I promise that I will save her. I will make her healthy.” The doctor said smiling at Lucy. Lucy smiled back, but was shy. She still didn’t know what was going on. They had planned the date. Her father had always said, “You have to always believe in the power of love. It gives meaning to each moment. It is what our hearts are all made of.” A couple of months later Lucy was happy again and was able to play with the other children. She had survived the surgery. Her parents were happy. They didn’t lose their own flesh and blood. They used love and dedication to find the right person that would help them. That felt sorry that she had that big of a tumor. They used the power of love and dedication. That was what saved their little girl. © 2012 Angie Diane♥♥Author's NoteFeatured Review
