The largest rainforest and driest desert

Reach higher than peaks of bricks.

The widest ocean and coolest breeze

Stretch further than the seas of concrete. 

But the Earth precedes man

And the sky follows him.

I sometimes wonder how long man is going to take to completely ruin everything
I see Greenland has gone past the melting point
A huge greenspace nursery near us is going to be flattened for a mall and apartments, and on and on it goes

Beautiful and evocative write. I loved how you harked back to how Manhattan used to be nothing but a marshy creek and is now this sprawling industrial scape. I like how you remind us that nature is still stronger than man. It came before us. And perhaps the sky will fall in before we realize that.

I love my greenspace and hate the urban sprawl so much.
I could go on a mad rant about logging in the amazon or other of nature's treasured spots.
There has to be a better way, right. Where are the civil engineers? I hope they're planning.

It's only a matter of time before there's no space left for anyone to live, but I think the entire world will become inhospitable to man before we get to that point. Governments will collapse, many people will perish to starvation or illness, and the population will plummet. Mankind will probably survive, but society sure won't. The saddest part is, how many other things will perish as this happens? Food for thought. Thanks for sharing this poem

When mother nature finally gets pissed off with us, I'm sure she'll remind us who actually rules the planet.
We sure are one dirty world at the moment, and getting dirtier by the day.

It's a side affect of burgeoning population growth; we encroach on every spot of greenery within our horizon and turn it into a concrete jungle. We need to find the right medium to sustain our life and the Earth's. It's a tricky conundrum. At least today we have more awareness of the damage we are doing and taking small steps to rectify it. Like the title, here.
